Please know that if you ever, for any reason, would like to talk to your child's teacher, Mr. Kowallis, or myself, you are welcome. Of course, for teachers, we need them to be with their kids during instructional hours but they are always happy to sit down and talk about the favorite thing we all have in common which are your kiddos! Enjoy your week! Mrs. McDermott

As many of you may be aware, the SJHS Homecoming parade will be this Friday. The parade route will go past our school and students have been asked to save plenty of treats for our students so that they don't miss out. Our teachers will be taking their students to sit on the curb on the east side of the school to watch the parade.
Each year we have a large number of students checked out to watch the parade with their family. Last year nearly half of our student population was checked out. This creates a lot of chaos in the classrooms while our Teachers try to maintain a learning environment. Because of this our secretaries have been asked to not use the "ALL CALL" system. Each student will be called down individually. While we will try to make this as efficient as possible, please be prepared for long lines and understand that we are doing our best.

The time has come for us to start up our Blanding Elementary School WatchD.O.G.S program again. If you are interested in being an elementary school superstar, then being in the WatchD.O.G.S. program is for you. All you need to do is send an email to Mr. Kowallis (kkowallis@sjsd.org) a few days ahead of time and let him know the day/s that you want to come in and volunteer. He will put together a schedule for you so that you can visit different classrooms and help in a variety of ways. You will also be able to eat lunch (which is free for all WatchD.O.G.s) with your kids and hang out with them and their friends. If you have any questions, feel free come in and talk to Mr. Kowallis, give him a call, or send him an email at the address above. We are looking forward to having you at our school and being a part of this amazing program!

Dear Parent(s) and Stakeholders,
The San Juan School District Board of Education members are seeking information to help best serve its patrons. As a consequence of the Covid19 Pandemic, it was necessary to suspend the practice of rotating board meeting locations from school to school within the county and hold them in one location (the Boardroom at the District Office in Blanding) and broadcast them virtually to parents and stakeholders. A modern, efficient broadcast system has been purchased and installed in the Board Room in the District Office in Blanding. This system was purchased using ESSER Care funds to help facilitate effective public participation into the virtual board meetings. A rise in participation of patrons resulted. In the past five months, the lowest number of viewers has been 60 with the highest being over a 100. These numbers are substantially higher than participation numbers in meetings prior to the Pandemic.
Now with the Pandemic subsiding to some degree, the Board of Education is seeking some input regarding the best way to provide stakeholder access to board meetings in the future. Should board meetings return to a rotation of in-person meetings at schools where broadcasting effectiveness is less than ideal due to many factors, or should board meetings remain in the Board Room in Blanding and be broadcasted virtually to patrons utilizing the modern, effective system? The Board of Education is asking you to provide your input into the decision by completing the attached survey. Thank you so much for your valuable time.
Ron Nielson
Superintendent of Schools

Attention SJSD Parents, Students, and Stakeholders,
On Monday August 15th, all San Juan School District schools and district office will be closed all day. SJSD staff will be attending a valuable training day to help them be ready to kick off another successful year. The focus of this training day will be to unite our district staff into one strong team and to remind teachers/staff of the critical role they each play in positively shaping the lives of our youth.
I appreciate your patience and understanding and apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change. Schools will reopen on Tuesday August 16th, and we look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Ron Nielson
