Celebrations:
1. The Capitol Hill Team from WHS (HopeP, JaSeaS, GabrielleD, NateoS, and KalvinP) took 9th place in the nationwide Challenge! They are advised by Mr Gosney and will be traveling to Washington, DC, next week for recognition!
2. From one of the UVU Future Teachers: "Thank you so much for welcoming us to Whitehorse High School! I learned so much from the wonderful teachers. The students were incredibly hardworking, respectful, collaborative, and talented. The teachers readily answered all our questions and were so encouraging. I love the culture at WHS. The environment is supportive and sets the scholars, teachers, and staff for success. I hope it's not too cheesy to say that anyone going into that school will come out a better person; I know I did! I really appreciate the work that your school community is doing, and I'm beyond grateful that you're willing to share it with us college students majoring in education. I'm impressed with how you blend the Navajo culture with the Utah education standards and utilize interdisciplinary learning to help scholars connect the things they learn!"
3. We hosted 34 graduates in celebrating their achievements throughout their high school years and earning their High School Diploma!
4. The state of Utah has a goal for 50% of Utah graduates to earn CTE (Career and Technical Education) Pathway Completer status by May 2029. WHS has far surpassed this goal, 4 years early, because 60% of our graduates earned CTE Pathway Completer status!
Academic Focus
Be sure to grab some books this summer and READ. A great way to kick off your Summer Reading is to join Ms Harvey's Book Club. We start on Monday, June 16, at 8 am in room 126! People can also check out books at the Montezuma Creek Public Library, which is open noon-4 pm on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's. The Public Library is hosting an event on Friday, June 20, at 1 pm called "Montezuma Creek Library Summer Reading - Sundial/Suncatchers".
We also have books in the WHS Scholar Commons that may be read and returned throughout the summer. Text 801.633.6755 if you need any assistance with this process.
Safety Spot:
Please be sure to drink lots of water this summer and stay hydrated. Additionally, leave early for appointments so you can drive slowly (and cautiously) through all construction zones.
